CV

Greg Chapman graduated in music at Bristol, and then embarked on a varied career which included playing in theatre pits, hotel lounges and on a cruise ship.

Moving back to London he was a regular at most of the capital's jazz venues including Pizza Express and Pizza on the Park, and has performed with musicians as diverse as saxophonist Andy Sheppard and Sister Sledge.

As well as composing for his own quartet, which for a time featured Tim Garland on sax, he has written and had performed a musical version of 'The Great Gatsby'. He also writes production music which has aired world-wide.

Now living in Cambridge he is the jazz piano specialist tutor at The Leys School, St. John's College School and at The King's School, Ely.

Tunes

Here are some of my earlier compositions, which were performed by various incarnations of the Greg Chapman Quartet.
Thanks to the great musicians who were kind enough to play with me, including Rob Statham, Tristan Maillot, Tim Garland, Kelvin Christiane and many more.

Midsummer Mania

This and The River explore the idea of developing the head, a bit like a classical sonata's development section.

The River

Mostly plain sailing but goes through some darker places before reaching the sea...

Puddles

The title comes from looking out of the window where I was living in rain-soaked Cardiff. At a summer jazz school once, I was immensely proud when the late great John Taylor, on hearing me play the tune, asked for a copy!

Never Mind

I like the piano riff at the start of the main tune. This and 'Summer' were me getting slash chords out of my system...

Give Five

Bit of a strange one this. File under 'quirky'!
